This week marks the first week of Chicago Marathon training. I’ve done a tempo run, 800 meter repeats, a spin class, and I am ready for my 12 miler this weekend. My, that came fast! And it feels like an eternity since I’ve done any kind of speedwork. In fact, it may be over a year. I didn’t do any fast miles when I trained for my 50k and the last race before that was the Boston Marathon. So needless to say, my body is like WHOA. Speed? What is that?
Sheri and I have decided to set up gym dates where we do side-by-side tempo runs to hold ourselves accountable. We also did speedwork together this morning on the 101. It’s just so much easier with a training partner. I am so grateful to not be going at it alone.
Outside of running – I’m just plain busy. Good busy, but busy nonetheless. Luckily, my job is fun and involves shooting commercials and planning influencer events. I also have a full time employee now and an intern which is an adjustment for me, and I’m loving it! Teamwork really does make the dream work. You can do SO MUCH MORE with support!
And outside of my 9-5, my run coaching is also super busy. I am maxed out on athletes this summer, which is a great problem to have. But I also hate turning people away. I almost want to say yes to just one more but then I remember that I don’t ever want to over-promise and under-deliver. I want to give everyone a fair amount of my time and attention which means drawing the line somewhere.
I’m also super pumped on the runners I am coaching. Every single one is AWESOME. I somehow managed to get a full load of funny, smart, motivated and communicative runners. How lucky am I? I GET to coach them and it’s such a privilege. I love that every person I’ve coached has found me through this blog, instagram, or word of mouth. And I have a few return clients too which is always great. I’m just feeling really good about this summer and my runners. I have such high hopes for all of them.
When I’m not running, working or coaching, I have managed to find time to spend at the beach with Brittany. We go every single weekend and it’s exactly what I need to recover and decompress. I am my best, most productive self when I allow myself that down time. It is truly essential! I tell all my runners, Stress + Rest = Progress. It’s a fact in training and in life. (And by stress, I mean challenging your body.)
I went to a Modern Mindfulness workshop this Saturday to help me to be more mindful in my day to day life, which becomes challenging when you’re doing so many different things. I need help with these things too, big time. I’m just grateful I have the ocean which is like an instant calming tool for me. And books. Reading is always a good idea.
So, that’s the 411 on me. You’ve probably noticed my blogging schedule has drastically decreased as of late but now that I am in marathon training mode, I will try to update more frequently. It gives me more to talk about it!
Happy Summer, Everyone!
How do you stay sane when life is crazy busy?
