St. Patrick’s Day used to mean a whole lotta beer drinking and partying until 2 a.m. I once got a ticket for drinking underage on St. Patrick’s Day when I was in college, but nowadays, my St. Patty’s Day looks a little different.
Around 6:00 tonight, I went on a sunset hike with Gunner (our dog) where we enjoyed the crazy amount of wildflowers that are blooming and chased sticks. Well, he did. I just threw them. Then Brittany and I ordered tuna nicoise salads to be delivered (postmates is either the best or worst thing to ever happen to me), started a fire in the fireplace, and turned on a PBS documentary about Koko the gorilla. Seriously. This is 30. Koko the gorilla on a Friday night.
Brittany just poured me a glass of wine and told me to WRITE because I did sign myself up for a 30 day writing challenge, after all. She even started a blog to join in on the fun. Talk about supportive, but damn it, now I’m obligated.
It’s kind of crazy how much the pace of my life has changed since meeting Brittany. I sort of pulled a bait and switch on her. When we met, I was going out 3-4 nights a week and could down a bottle of wine on a Tuesday night. If I did that now, I’d be hungover for like six days.
If you’re reading this and you’re still in your twenties, you have multi-day hangovers to look forward to.
Nowadays, I’d rather read some historical fiction than binge watch a TV show. I’d rather stay in on a Friday night watching a documentary than go to a bar. And let’s just say, if I were to get married, my bachelorette party would not involve strippers in Vegas. It would be more like a day full of yoga, kombucha and maybe some vision boarding or an astrological reading of sorts. Brittany is probably like “what did I sign up for?”
Does anyone else ever get that ‘holy shit I’m old’ feeling?
Honestly though, I love my thirties so far. My twenties were C R A Z Y and uncertain and reckless so I am wholeheartedly embracing this slower paced decade of my life — just not so much the wrinkles.
Help! I need more topics to write about or else this writing challenge will become a daily diary entry.
Open to any and all ideas. 🙂
