I’m back from the most epic weekend in Vancouver and trust me, I have a whole lot to say about SeaWheeze!
That post will come later this week. I still need to collect all my thoughts. Stay tuned…
Let’s talk trails.
Remember that time I trained for a 50k and then ran 32 miles on trails up in San Francisco? Yeah, that was pretty insane and also SO incredibly beautiful. While I don’t think I’d sign up for another 50k anytime soon, I do still enjoy at least one weekly trail run. I love the peace and solitude.
Trail running is humbling and requires you to check your ego at the door. Just try to run the same pace as on the roads and you will quickly realize it’s unachievable. I hated this at first but I think I have finally learned to let that go. Pace is irrelevant out on the trails, so it’s best to embrace the freedom, unplug, and just run.
These days, I don’t run trails nearly as much as I run on roads mainly because San Diego doesn’t really offer the kind of trails I love and crave. My favorite trail running is in the mountains and forest. Here in San Diego, it tends to be dry and dead, especially in the summer. Even more reason why I love a nice getaway to Big Bear in the summer.
My perfect trail…
Weaves between towering trees that offer respite from the blazing sun.
It is soft and springy underfoot and damp from the early morning dew.
The air is cool, crisp and clean and cleanses my lungs.
The path is well-worn and clearly enjoyed by many, yet it’s rare to see another face.
My perfect trail provides solitude and a little brain vacation.
It wears me out but gives me life at the same time.
On my perfect trail, I feel wild. I’m on an outdoor adventure with my pup by my side.
I am sharing this as part of Bauerfeind Sports‘ #MyPerfectTrail campaign. The first 100 people to share their perfect trail on Instagram using the hashtag #myperfecttrail will receive a FREE pair of compression sleeves (like the ones I love and wear on long trail runs). You’ll also be entered to win a trip to Atlanta to run the 2018 Peachtree Road Race – the biggest 10k in the world! That includes airfare and everything.
I’ll be taking over the Bauerfeind Instagram next week! Follow them so you don’t miss it. 🙂
So tell me, what’s your perfect trail like?
