Oh my gosh, you guys. I’ve been busy as all get out lately – but what else is new? I think I start 98% of my blog posts saying how busy I am which I am 98% sure gets annoying. Sorry. I’ll work on that.
But anyway, I’ve been to many weeknight concerts lately (which isn’t as easy to do at 30 as it was at 26). I’ve been running lots of miles, doing a few happy hours and book clubs. There was also Easter in there and lots of family time, coaching some new(ish) runners and working that whole full time job thing. Life is full and good. No complaints here.
You can already smell summer around here. The days are getting longer and the days warmer. It’s coming. I don’t know how I feel about it just yet. It’s a little soon. It’s as if I’m dating the seasons and all like wait, wait, wait – slow your roll. Let’s just hang out in spring a little longer.
Summer is great and all because the ocean finally gets to a temperature that won’t freeze your nipples off. And there’s the whole really late sunset thing which rocks my world. I lovvvvve nothing more than catching a gorgeous sunset after work and even better yet if it’s with a glass of wine. Solid summer things.
Summer also almost always means marathon training. That’s the part I’m feeling a little unsure about. I’m kind of digging this free-style run training thing I have going on. I run 3o miles, on average, each week without much thought. There isn’t an ounce of pressure and I can also be totally flexible with my schedule. It’s working for me at the moment.
At the same time – it will be nice to have some focus and I am trying to think positive about those long ass runs on Saturdays. I have to remind myself that marathon training is worth skipping Friday night happy hours for. Right? And there’s always after a run to hop in the ocean and Saturday night to enjoy a cocktail. I do want to get fast again and it will be exciting to see what this body of mine can do this year. I have no idea what to expect but hopefully I can whip out a fast time in Chicago this October.
I’ll also be coaching at least two other girls who are training for Chicago and Brittany is registered as well, so it will be fun to have some people to train with in spirit at our own respective paces. I just need to mentally prepare for 16 weeks of hard training. I don’t even have to start until June, so there’s plenty of time. In the meantime, I’m going to soak up every last ounce of springtime.
