It’s no secret I love running. I run 5 days a week and there’s no form of exercise I’d rather do more. But I know it does my body good to try new things. So recently I started incorporating pilates (which I love!) and some spinning and yoga. But I still shy away from anything involving weights or heavy lifting.
So when Athleta came out with this new campaign, #UpForAnything, in support of their new Up For Anything tight, I was so down. I’m always up for a challenge, and as much as I love my fitness routine, I also love trying new things. I was asked to grab a friend and try something outside of my comfort zone. So I called up Sheri and picked the craziest possible class I could find in the area – FitWall Solana Beach.
We received our boxes of goodies about a week before the class and it felt like Christmas morning. The Up For Anything tight is made of a beautiful, fair-trade, Sculptek Light fabric which provides light compression for the perfect combination of movement and support, no matter the workout. There are plenty of pockets which are key for keys when you’re running. 😉 The tank is light and semi cheer to show the super stylish sports bra. We were also gifted with a Swell water bottle (only the best).
With our sweet new outfits on and our water bottles in hand, we headed to FitWall. I don’t even fully know how to explain this workout because it is so different than anything I’ve ever done. Everyone is stationed at a ladder and there are a lot of weights involved. You work on strength, stability, mobility, agility and cardio. It was intense! There were several really strong women just dominating the workout and I watched them for inspiration.
What I loved most about Fitwall is the community feel. The instructor knew everyone’s name and everyone told us “great job” at the end and gave eachother high fives. It was super positive, encouraging and welcoming – which is essential if you’re walking into a hardcore, slightly frightening new workout.
So long story short – it was WAY outside of my comfort zone. And I went ALL OUT. I was sore for literally 5 whole days. Will I go back? Yes, definitely. I think I will take Brittany next time because it seems like the type of workout she would love. I’m also going to stay on the #upforanything train and continue to try new, uncomfortable things. It’s so good for me and I really need to step outside of my comfort zone more often.
Here are some ideas I have that have nothing to do with fitness:
- Take a writing class where you have to share your writing with the group (eek, terrifying!)
- Attend a cacao ceremony. It sounds magical but you also have to get pretty vulnerable with a group of strangers.
- Ask for a raise.
- Read 1 non-fiction book for every 2 fiction books I read.
I challenge YOU to be #UpForAnything and try something outside of your comfort zone. What will you do?! Leave a comment.
